About the Image to Grayscale

Turn color images into grayscale for print, a classic black-and-white look or accessibility checks. The conversion uses Rec. 709 luminance weights (21% red, 72% green, 7% blue), which match how bright colors appear to the human eye better than a simple average.

Lower the strength slider for a muted, partially desaturated look.

How to use it

  1. Set the strength (100% for full black and white).
  2. Choose the output format.
  3. Drop images and download the grayscale versions.

Good to know

  • The output is still saved as an RGB image with equal channels, which every app can open.
  • For grayscale PDFs use the PDF Grayscale tool.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as desaturating?

Close, but desaturation in HSL averages the brightest and darkest channel, which can make greens look too dark. Luminance weighting keeps perceived brightness.

Can I undo it later?

No — color information is discarded. Keep your original file.
