About the Convert PDF to Grayscale

Print shops often charge more for color, and some submissions require grayscale. This tool renders every page with PDF.js, converts it to grayscale using perceptual luminance and rebuilds the PDF.

Because pages become images, text is no longer selectable — the tool tells you this up front so you can decide.

How to use it

  1. Open a PDF.
  2. Pick the output quality (150 DPI for screen, 300 for print).
  3. Convert and download.

Good to know

  • Output pages are JPEG images; text selection and search are lost.
  • Documents are limited to 500 pages.
  • If you need a vector grayscale PDF, use a desktop tool such as Ghostscript.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the file get bigger?

Vector text is small; images of text are larger. Lower the DPI for a smaller file.

Is this good enough for printing?

At 300 DPI the output is sharp for normal document printing.
