About the Blur Image

Create soft backgrounds for text overlays, low-detail placeholder images or a dreamy effect. The blur uses three passes of a box filter, a well-known approximation of a Gaussian blur that produces smooth results and works identically in every browser — including Safari, which lacks canvas blur filters.

Processing runs in a background worker, so even large images don't freeze the page.

How to use it

  1. Set the blur radius.
  2. Choose an output format.
  3. Drop your images and download the blurred results.

Good to know

  • This tool blurs the entire image. It is not a reliable way to hide faces or text partially; use an editor that blurs a selected area and verify the result.
  • Very large radii on big images can take a few seconds.

Frequently asked questions

Is blurring enough to hide sensitive information?

Light blurring of text or license plates can sometimes be reversed or guessed. For redaction, cover the area with a solid box instead.

Why do edges look soft but not dark?

The filter uses premultiplied alpha and edge clamping, avoiding the dark halos many simple blur implementations produce.
