About the UUID Generator

Create universally unique identifiers for database keys, test fixtures and request IDs. Version 4 UUIDs are fully random; version 7 (RFC 9562) starts with a timestamp, so values sort by creation time and index efficiently in databases.

All values come from the browser's cryptographically secure random generator.

How to use it

  1. Choose v4 or v7 and how many.
  2. Set formatting options.
  3. Copy or download the list.

Good to know

  • The chance of a v4 collision is negligible: you'd need about 2.7 quintillion UUIDs for a 50% chance of one duplicate.

Frequently asked questions

UUID or GUID?

They are the same thing; GUID is Microsoft's name.

When should I use v7?

For primary keys in databases, where time-ordered IDs reduce index fragmentation.
