About the AVIF to JPG Converter

AVIF offers excellent compression but is still unsupported by many image editors, office suites and upload forms. This converter turns AVIF files into standard JPGs you can open anywhere.

Modern browsers decode AVIF natively; if yours cannot, the tool automatically loads a WebAssembly AVIF decoder so conversion still works without uploading anything.

How to use it

  1. Set the JPG quality and background color.
  2. Drop one or more .avif files.
  3. Download the converted JPGs individually or as a ZIP.

Good to know

  • High bit-depth (10/12-bit HDR) AVIF images are converted to standard 8-bit JPG, so HDR highlights are tone-mapped by the browser.
  • Transparent areas are filled with the chosen background color.

Frequently asked questions

What is AVIF?

AVIF is an image format based on the AV1 video codec. It typically produces files around 50% smaller than JPEG at similar quality.

Why can't I open AVIF files on my computer?

Support depends on the operating system and app. Windows needs the AV1 extension and many editors lack support, so converting to JPG is the simplest fix.
