About the Break-Even Calculator

The break-even point is where revenue exactly covers costs — every sale beyond it is profit. Enter fixed costs (rent, salaries, software), the price per unit and the variable cost per unit (materials, shipping, payment fees) to see the units and revenue needed.

How to use it

  1. Enter fixed costs for the period.
  2. Enter price and variable cost per unit.
  3. Read break-even units, revenue and contribution margin.

Good to know

  • Assumes constant price and unit costs; volume discounts or price changes shift the break-even point.

Frequently asked questions

What is contribution margin?

Price minus variable cost per unit — the amount each sale contributes toward fixed costs.

How can I lower my break-even point?

Raise prices, cut variable costs or reduce fixed costs.
