About the Car Lease Calculator
Lease payments have two parts: depreciation (the value the car loses while you drive it) and a finance charge called the rent charge. This calculator uses the same method as dealers — capitalized cost, residual value and money factor — so you can check a quote line by line and compare it with buying.
How to use it
- Enter MSRP, negotiated price, down payment, trade-in and fees.
- Enter residual percentage, term and money factor (or APR).
- Review the monthly payment and total lease cost.
Good to know
- Results are estimates for planning purposes and not financial, tax or legal advice. Lenders and tax authorities may calculate differently.
- Sales tax on leases varies: most states tax the monthly payment, some tax the full price upfront.
- Money factor × 2400 ≈ APR. Ask the dealer for the money factor in writing.
